Prospective Students
Welcome from the Director

Welcome and thanks for visiting our site! If you have arrived on this page for "prospective students", there is a good chance you are considering advancing your career by going back to school while continuing to work. Understandably this is a big commitment of time and resources, so let me point out why we think you've made the right decision to invest in yourself.

  • Jobs/Opportunity! The healthcare industry continues to dominate job growth despite the sagging economy. No matter what the economic climate, careers in healthcare management, health I.T., and health planning and financial services remain strong.
  • The healthcare industry is not normal! Understanding and improving your management and policy analysis skills should be done in an educational environment that focuses on the unique nature of the healthcare industry. Sure, general finance, economic and operations skills are handy, but you'll find the "normal" rules don't apply and when you acquire these skills, you'll need to tailor them to the unique characteristics of the healthcare industry and political environment.
  • It's about who you know! After 15 years, the EMPH program alone has 420 loyal alumni that are strategically distributed throughout the greater Los Angeles healthcare industry. Our executive healthcare management alumni are leading academic medical centers, community hospitals, large physician groups, health plans, and bio-pharmaceutical companies. Due to the strong collegial friendships and working relationships built during our intensive cohort-style program, these alumni remain closely connected and supportive while advancing their careers. This is in addition to thousands of alumni from the long-running weekday program in the Health Service Department as well.
  • Learning from the best! Centered in one of the most dynamic and challenging cities in the U.S., the UCLA EMPH executive student receives instruction and insight from the Department of Health Policy & Management renowned faculty and also executives from the local area. CEOS, CFOs, Marketing executives, and scientists from the most prestigious healthcare systems in L.A. (Cedars-Sinai, Kaiser, UCLA, and the Veterans' Administration, etc.) enthusiastically serve as faculty members to augment our classroom experience with direct experience from the field. You can expect to have experiential learning opportunities by working on real case studies, implementing projects directly in provider institutions, and have candid, facilitated discussions with the healthcare leaders of today, and the leaders of tomorrow.

We hope you will request a brochure and attend one of our regularly scheduled information sessions to learn more about giving yourself a significant advantage in your healthcare management and policy career. I look forward to meeting you.
